Bayanihan Brunch Raises Over $15k for SIPA Programs
SIPA’s Bayanihan Brunch took place on Sunday, November 17, featuring bites from the 2024 James Beard Award for Best Chef-California: Chef Maynard of Kuya Lord and Chopped Sweets winner and owner of Cafe-86 Ginger Lim-Dimapasok. The fundraiser brought together the community for a feast and joy-filled afternoon, raising over $15,000 that will benefit SIPA’s programs in 2025.

Filipino American History Month Awards

A Lasting Impact, Where are SIPA’s Alumni Now?
SIPA’s presence and programming in Historic Filipinotown for the past 50 years expands beyond the immediate neighborhood, beyond Los Angeles, across California, and throughout the United States.
Filipinx Media Company, Kollective Hustle (written by Jen Redondo), gathered the stories of a handful of some of our most impactful alumni in the article “SIPA's Lasting Impact | From Afterschool Programs to Nationwide Influence, Faith Santilla, Desi Danganan, Johneric Concordia and other Alum Share Their Stories”.
Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings
SIPA’s youth mental health first aid trainings teach adults how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use disorders in youth. This program is great for parents, coaches, educators, and anyone that works with youth.
Eddy Gana, one of SIPA’s mental health clinical program managers, was recently a guest on ABC7 news to bring more awareness about this important program.
SIPA Invites Community to Weigh in on New Mural Design in Historic Filipinotown
The west-facing wall of HiFi Collective — Filipino American non profit organization Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) headquarters (3200 W. Temple Street, Suite 100 Los Angeles, CA 90026) a mixed use space with permanent supportive housing, and community center in Historic Filipinotown (HiFi) — will be the latest canvas for a new mural.
SIPA is calling on the HiFi community to voice their input on the design to ensure that the mural will embody the past, present, and future of the community and will represent all those that consider HiFi their home. Community members can submit their ideas and input through a form by Friday, September 27.
SIPA’s Summer Camp Provides Culturally Relevant Programming to HiFi
SIPA’s Filipino Summer Program provides programming that educates and engages youth in Filipino culture. Every day of SIPA’s Filipino Summer Program will touch on different aspects of the Filipino culture and instill a sense of pride and curiosity for Filipino culture. During this program, youth will be delving into topics of Filipino Food, Filipino Dance, Filipino Music, Filipino Language, and Filipino Arts.
Family Day and PRIDE Celebration
Family Day and Pride Celebration is an event where SIPA brings the community together at Lucena on Court for games, workshops, resource sharing and more. This was the first year hosting the event at the new Lucena on Court Wellness Center.
BARYO HIFI: A Celebration of Filipino Culture and Community
Historic Filipinotown recently witnessed the vibrant and successful inaugural BARYO HIFI event, a celebration that brought together the Filipino American community in Los Angeles, and beyond. The event was held on May 4th, 2024 and was a success, drawing thousands of attendees and featuring a dynamic mix of food, music, art, and community activities.
For The Culture - Historic Illipino at SIPA
SIPA has always been a hub and place for Filipino arts and culture to be shared and created in Historic Filipinotown. This year, SIPA held the Historic Illipinos IV: Moving The Needle event, celebrating the significant impact Filipinos have had on DJ'ing and hip hop culture.
PLATO Program Brings Filipinos and Latinos together in SIPA’s Heritage Garden
PLATO (Pilipinos And Latinos Accessing Together) is a community garden program designed to teach first-time and experienced gardeners alike how to cultivate fresh produce in their own neighborhood
Supervisor Hilda Solis Honors SIPA at AAPI Heritage Month Reception
This year, Supervisor Solis selected SIPA to be one of her honorees for the May 10th, 2024 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Reception, co-hosted by the LA County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA).
A Safe Space for LA’s Youth Voices
SIPA’s Harmony Horizon: Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Solidarity Conference took place on April 27, 2024. Crafted with the intention of uniting high school and college students to explore the profound significance of solidarity and allyship within the AAPI community through a series of community responsive workshops like “what is happening in Gaza?”, a Kali self-defense class, and “what is AAPI hate and how to report it” to name a few.
SIPA Well-Being Center Opens at Lucena on Court
On Friday, March 29, 2024, the SIPA community welcomed a first of its kind well-being center at the new Lucena on Court housing development in Historic Filipinotown.

SIPA’s services essential to thriving community with new wellness center opening this Spring
Filipino American nonprofit organization Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) supported over 2400 community members in Historic Filipinotown (HiFi) through their youth, wellness, and mental health services in 2023 — serving over 400 individuals through their health and wellness services alone. SIPA will unveil a new wellness center in the spring and expand their programming in LA County throughout 2024.
HiFi Parol Parade and Holiday Traditions at SIPA
2023 is the first holiday season at the new SIPA HQ in HiFi Collective. The festivities kicked off with the 16th annual Historic Filipinotown Parol Parade.
Nonprofit Nurtures Teen Leaders in Historic Filipinotown
Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) — a longstanding Filipino American nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for Filipino Americans in Historic Filipinotown (HiFi) and beyond through ongoing youth programs, mental health education, affordable housing, and more — is centering teens and their holiday wish lists in an annual toy giveaway on Sunday, December 10th from 10am-3pm at HiFi collective.
2023 Gala and Barangay Awards Highlights
Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA), now in our 51st year, celebrated the 2023 Barangay Awards & Gala on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the LINE Hotel. The event was a celebration of the community with this year’s honorees - California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Pastor Danny Cortez (Long Beach Christian Fellowship) renowned Chef Vallerie Castillo-Archer (Philippine Airlines), and DJ E-Man (Power 106, KDAY).
