MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

SIPA’s Mental Health Services aim to heal communities with a holistic approach and destigmatize mental health for the safety and well-being of youth, children, and families.

Mental Health First Aid Trainings

Teaches groups how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use disorders. Approved by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Adult MHFA 6-hour training and Youth MHFA 5-hour training are available online or blended (online and in-person). Online and blended courses require the completion of 2-hour self-paced pre-work on the MHFA Connect portal. Certification is valid for 3 years. Tuition includes access to training manual, participant processing guide, and video/audio/print resources. Group rates are available.

Support Groups

Provides therapeutic spaces for adults (age 18+) and youth (ages 13-17) to share experiences and foster peer relationships. Groups are facilitated on a weekly basis either online or in-person. Type of groups are diverse including Genderqueer, Non-Binary, or Gender Non-Conforming, Grief and Loss, Filipino/a/x, and High School Youth. Groups are for those who are of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or People of Color), Latino/a/x/e, or Filipino/a/x descent. Groups are structured as closed or open attendance for safety purposes. Participants are entered into opportunity drawings including gift cards and self-care items.

Educational Presentations

Join us for Mag-Usap Mondays every month where we raise awareness about mental wellness with a holistic and trauma-informed approach. This psychoeducational series explores mental health disorders and its prevalence in the Filipino/a/x-American community. Topics include stigma, depression, anxiety, substance use, grief and loss, evidenced-based interventions, indigenous practices, self/community care, mindfulness, stress management, and wellness activities. This series is for those who identify as Filipino/a/x, but all are welcome to attend. We also offer speaking engagement and outreach in addition to introductory workshops for your special event, staff, group, school and/or organization in person or virtually.

Wellness Workshops and Practices
at HiFi Well-Being Center

Providing a series of wellness sessions for those who identify as Filipino/a/x, AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander), and BIPOC. From a holistic approach, community members are invited to participate in sound bath, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and indigenous practices. Wellness practitioners are trauma-informed and mental health professionals are available on-site.

Case Navigation

Assisting families with community linkages to access activities, resources, and supports, such as employment, school, housing, healthcare, social networks, legal aid, childcare, and financial assistance for rent and other expenses. This multi-level case management includes distributing information, initiating referrals, and providing enhanced supportive services. Duration of services ranges between 1-3 months.

Mental Health Screenings and Referrals

Providing initial mental health screenings and assessments and connecting individuals to appropriate referrals. Referrals include therapy, support groups, wellness, parenting, vocational, domestic or intimate partner violence, and substance use programs.

Short-Term Counseling

Providing 10-12 sessions on a weekly basis online and/or in-person based on need and availability. Sessions aim to address immediate needs through the use of therapeutic and evidenced-based practices. Assessments are strengths-based and treatment plans are individualized to maximize the full potential of clients for overall safety and well-being. This program is only available for individual adults who have children, or individual youth. Exception: Individual adults may receive services only if identifies as AAPI or there is previous history of anti-Asian hate, violence, and/or discrimination.

Internships

Offering students with the opportunity to complete their bachelor's and master's level placement. Students are provided with a comprehensive and integrative learning experience that reflects broad social work practice areas and specializations including Children, Youth, and Families; Community Mental Health; and Community Capacity Building. From a systems theory approach, this BASW and MSW program incorporates micro, mezzo, and micro social work. Students are assessed throughout the course of their undergraduate and graduate study on progress to achieving the 9 social work core competencies. In addition, general mental health internships are available upon inquiry.
