The Health and Wellness Team aims to address and reduce health disparities in SPA 4 and Los Angeles County overall amongst Filipino Americans and those highly impacted by inequities in vital health resources.
Access to Care and Resources
In partnership with Advancing Justice Southern California, AAPI Equity Alliance, and the LA Department of Public Health, SIPA offers referral navigation and resources surrounding legal assistance, health insurance access, COVID-19 information, PPE, testing, and vaccine information, and food access.
Life Skills and Wellness Workshops
SIPA’s wellness workshops held at both HiFi Collective and HiFi Well-Being Center within Lucena on Court aim to educate our communities about valuable resources and health information. The following topics include Health Insurance Access, Finance and Budgeting, Women’s Health and Resources, and Food Benefits and Cal-Fresh.
Community Research and Evaluation
SIPA is committed to continue to work with our community to adjust and respond to the immediate needs of Filipino Americans and immigrant families. SIPA works with academic institutions and community based organizations to bring in community members to participate in relevant research studies that help to promote overall wellness to individuals.
Filipino Americans and immigrant families continue to experience major health disparities rooted in decades of unjust US immigration policies and generations’ worth of trauma only worsened by the racism and other consequences of the pandemic (Liwanag et al., 2021). SIPA’s Health and Wellness program aims to ensure communities have access to adequate, affordable healthcare resources, and are knowledgeable on how to access the information to promote healthier lifestyles. We do this through the following programs:
