SIPA is Looking For An Executive Director

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. They will provide leadership in the development and implementation of programs and services, fundraising and resource development, fiscal management, and community economic development. The ED will develop an extensive knowledge of field/community, core programs, operations, and business plans. They will engage and immerse themselves as a leader in the Pilipino/Pilipino American Community in Los Angeles and the Greater L.A. community at large.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership/Management

  • Ensure ongoing, day-to-day programming excellence, rigorous program evaluation and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
  • Actively engage and energize SIPA volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Primary staff contact between Board of Directors and staff. Support Board of Directors by serving as ex-officio of each committee and seek/build board involvement with SIPA’s strategic direction
  • Provide staff input/reports during monthly Board Meetings. Include financial state of organization (profit and loss, cash flow, revenue and expenses) and any other reports requested by the Board
  • Work closely with the Executive Committee (EC) of the Board of Directors on the ongoing development and management of key organization policies, programming and personnel
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain SIPA management staff. Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents
  • Oversee operations and responsibilities of the operations staff which include, but not limited to, assisting counseling staff on tasks in group or individual counseling, and to take lead in training staff in program planning, resource development, and conduct of programs
  • Oversee operations and manage Community Economic Development (CED) programs

Programs and Services

  • Responsible for achievement and compliance of program goals within fiscal limits of contract
  • Oversees all activities in the organization and will take lead in training staff in program planning, resource development, and conduct of programs
  • Work with programming and services staff to develop programmatic policies and oversee the implementation of all program and services
  • Interrelate with other public agencies, elected officials, and other political/community leaders
  • Initiates and maintains positive working relationships with community stakeholders (schools, businesses, law enforcement, families, etc.)

Fundraising/Communications

  • Responsible for development of additional resources and leveraging of funds to support existing programming and Community Center expansion while simultaneously retiring existing debt
  • Collaborates with leadership and staff in the development of contract and services as well as fundraising and event planning; Responsible for the timely completion of proposals (RFP’s) for funding. Serve as primary agency contact person to funding sources
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications – from web presence to external relations with a goal of creating a strong brand in the community
  • Serve as primary spokesperson and representative of SIPA in all public engagements
  • Work closely with EC on organization branding, fundraising, and public relations goals

Planning/New Business

  • Participate in and lead the strategic direction of the redevelopment opening and programming expansion
  • Support Board of Directors as needed with development and management of strategic plans
  • Build partnerships in new markets and establish relationships with funders

Administrative

  • Oversee the financial activities of the organization with the Executive Committee and/or Finance Committee. Activities include development of operating budget, payroll, cash management, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable and payable; will work with the Board in ensuring overall fiscal health of the organization and will provide accurate financial reports on which the Board will base policy decisions
  • Provide leadership in the human resources of the organization. Will oversee the hiring and discharging of employees, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and employee training and development. Provide reports to the Board regarding staffing updates, compensation and benefits. Maintain the Employee Handbook policies and procedures
  • Maintain the safety and security of the headquarters office/building; maintain property, liability and directors insurance policies

QUALIFICATIONS

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to SIPA’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

Specific requirements include:

  • Advanced degree, ideally a master’s degree, with 10 years of senior management experience, extensive history of management of human service programs
  • Proven track record of effectively leading a team and ability to identify specific examples of developing and executing strategies that have taken an organization to next level of growth
  • Commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organization management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors, with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to dynamically adjust workload to align with needs and financial situation of organization
  • Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
  • Bilingual/bi-cultural in Filipino/Tagalog is desired
  • Valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance policy
